Forklift responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Unload and properly place packs in the appropriate storage location.
• Load packs on to Tilt hoist
• Assist in lift operating procedures at the green stacker when necessary.
• Assist in finish forklift duties whenever needed.
• Involved in the week-end loading and unloading of the dry kilns
• Maintaining safe work areas, collecting debris and disposing of sawdust and dropped lumber in assigned areas
• Showing a willingness and flexibility to perform various job assignments that may change daily
• Supporting our culture of safety by adhering to mill safety policies and procedures at all times
• Complete equipment checks and perform preventive maintenance on equipment

   
Requirements include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of six (6) months in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
• Prior industrial forklift experience
• Ability to drive a 35,000-pound Forklift
• Must be able to distinguish size, widths, lengths, or types of lumber.
• Ability to work outdoors in all temperatures in loud, high volume environments performing physical tasks throughout the shift
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position which includes walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds
• Ability to perform all tasks in accordance with West Fraser safety policies and procedures
• Recognize and support our team culture, communicating effectively with all team members
• Ability to work day or night shifts, holidays and weekends

REGISTRATION:  To preregister download the registration form (click here).   Cutoff date to register is May 18th.  The registration fee is $40 per person.  This includes the meeting space and dinner.   There is no registration fee for spouses (or significant other) of members, or retired and lifetime members.  Please prepay by sending a check payable to the Southeastern Dry Kiln Club and mail it to Phil Mitchell, NC State University, Campus Box 8003, Raleigh, NC  27695-8003.  You can either FAX the completed form to (919-515-6302) or email the form to Phil Mitchell (phil_mitchell@ncsu.edu) to let us know you are coming so that we can plan the dinner. You can still pay (cash or check) at the door, but it makes our job easier if you pay-in-advance. 
 
HOTEL: The meeting hotel will be the LA QUINTA INN & SUITES,1607 Fairgrove Church Road, Conover, North Carolina.  The hotel's phone number is (828) 465-1100.  You must make your own hotel reservations if you plan to attend.  Ask for the SE DRY KILN CLUB rate of $92.00 per room per night plus tax.  The hotel cutoff date to get this special rate is May 10th.   Please make your hotel reservations now so you are not left without a room.

West Coast Dry Kiln Association Spring Meeting

Arrangements are now being made for a Spring meeting!  It is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at the Spirit Mountain Casino/Hotel in Grand Ronde, Oregon, followed by a tour of the kilns (and new control equipment) at Hampton Lumber in Willamina.  A block of hotel rooms has been set aside for those who arrive on Friday.  Contact the Casino/Hotel directly to make reservations at 503-879-2350. Keep an eye on this page for more details as they become available.  A meeting notice will be mailed/emailed to all paid members at least three weeks prior to the meeting.

KILN AND RECAUST SUPERINTENDENT

Key responsibilities include:

• Directing an area team consisting of engineering, process, and maintenance resources
• Leads or facilitates problem solving meetings to investigate deviations from safety, quality and reliability targets, and executing the timely implementation of action plans to prevent future deviations
• Planning and organizing major and area shutdowns in the recaust/kiln area
• Organizing the repair and capital work in the recaust/kiln area by priority, communicating with maintenance to produce the weekly work list and area and major shutdown work lists in co-operation with the other area superintendents
• Participating in improving all aspects of the operation of the area, including convening operations optimization meetings, investigating new technology and methods, etc.
• Initiating work orders and purchase requisitions to mobilize the work and services needed to address the requirements of the operating equipment and the physical structure
• Identifying competencies and establishing and developing training requirements for the operating crews
• Developing and meeting a department budget
• Develops and implements standard operating procedures

Qualifications:

• A minimum of five years progressive industrial experience
• Strong and proven leadership, planning, budgeting and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Well established organizational and project management skills
• Outstanding team player and team building skills
• Knowledge of computer software and applications
• The desire to progress, learn, grow and succeed

Considered a strong asset:

• Previous experience in a pulp mill or related process industry
• A post-secondary technical degree, preferably in mechanical or chemical engineering

Hi Mike,
Ok, I dont't want to get into such a detailed discussion with you since you are much more knowledgeable than I am. I was of the opinion that you can either have emissions out the vents in gas form or as condensate in liquid form. If the liquid condensate does not have the ability to absorb the emissions as much as the steam does that is new to me and I (again) learned something.

Can we agree on the simple fact that heat recovery reduces the energy consumption and thus does reduce the emissions?

Having said that and reading your interesting comment below where do the VOCs go after they went through the heat recovery system? Are they still in the steam just in a more condensed form? Sorry, that might be a stupid question but I just want to make sure I understood your comment below.
