Short Course on Dehumidification Drying of Lumber

Course Backgound:Dehumidification drying can produce high quality kiln dried lumber with a small capital investment. Kiln capacities are smaller than for steam heated kilns and a boiler is not required. Drying times can be similar to those needed with steam kilns. As a result, dehumidification drying offers low volume producers the opportunity of use an economical way to produce high quality, kiln dried lumber.
Course Description:This short course will provide practical knowledge about using dehumidification to produce kiln dried lumber, and the scientific background on related wood properties. It will have value for those kiln operators beginning to operate a dehumidification kiln and those considering the purchase of a dehumidification kiln. Instruction, by university faculty, will be both in the classroom and through hands-on lab exercises using our 1000 BF laboratory dry kiln equipped with a commercial lumber dehumidification system. A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants.

Location and Lodging:The workshop will take place in Hodges Lab located on the NC State University Campus, near the corner of Dan Allen Drive and Western Blvd. A parking pass is required (see below). Parking at NCSU Campus:Those registered for the workshop will receive a parking pass email a few days prior to the workshop which will give instructions on how to claim and print a parking pass to display on your vehicle. The cost of the pass is included in the workshop registration fee.
